Alex Khvatov:
What are your
measurements (height, weight and forty time)?
Sean
Cattouse: 6’2”
½, 212, 4.65.
Alex Khvatov:
Coming out of high school in
Illinois, what programs showed interest in you?
Sean
Cattouse:
Mostly Big 10 schools, Mississippi State and
Cal. I had 25 scholarship offers. There was at
least one scholarship offer from each major DI
conference.
Alex Khvatov:
Why did you choose the University
of California?
Sean
Cattouse:
Five years ago, the school really established
itself as an up and coming program under coach
Tedford. It is a very good public institution
in terms of academics. Academics played a big
part in my decision. It seemed like a good fit.
Alex Khvatov:
Describe your senior season to us.
Sean
Cattouse:
This past season we went to a Bowl Game. We had
a strong defense. Our offense was young and had
a lot of growing to do. We had a lot of young
guys and we grew as a team when the season
progressed. We came together. I had a solid
season individually. We had a new defensive
scheme this year. They had me doing a lot of
things. I did the job that the coach asked me
to do. Overall, I was happy with it.
Alex Khvatov:
Tell us about your Scouting
Combine experience.
Sean
Cattouse:
The Combine was great. It was an experience.
It was good to see so many top prospects from
across the nation come together on one field.
It was eye opening, intense and long. I would
never pass it up. I was satisfied with my
Combine performance. I had a top three shuttle
time out of all of the safeties. I did well in
the positional drills. I was disappointed with
my forty time. I wasn’t satisfied with a 4.7.
But overall, I would do it again in a
heartbeat.
Alex Khvatov:
Were you satisfied with your
performance at the Pro Day?
Sean
Cattouse:
Yeah, I was satisfied with my Pro Day. I
improved in every category. I improved my forty
time to a 4.6.
Alex Khvatov:
How have you
been training for the NFL Draft?
Sean
Cattouse:
I stayed at Cal. I worked with my strength
coach. I have been using the facilities here at
Cal to get ready for the draft. It has been
great. It has been very comfortable.
Alex Khvatov:
Have you had any private workouts
with NFL teams?
Sean
Cattouse:
Yeah, the Atlanta Falcons. It was great.
Thomas Dimitroff shook my hand. It was exciting
to work out for them.
Alex Khvatov:
What is the coolest thing that
you did during this NFL draft process?
Sean
Cattouse:
Definitely the Combine.
Alex Khvatov:
What is the
highlight of your football career up to this
point?
Sean
Cattouse:
I have a few. My sophomore year, I had a big
hit against Minnesota which was featured on
ESPN. It was a big hit, but the receiver held
on to it and scored a touchdown. I had a big
game during my junior year against Arizona
State. It seemed like I was making every play
during that game.
Alex Khvatov:
What are your strengths on the
football field?
Sean
Cattouse:
I run the defense. I make calls and
adjustments. I lead the defense. I am a smart
player and a leader. I play the ball in the air
well. I play the pass well.
Alex Khvatov:
What areas of your game do you
still need to improve upon?
Sean
Cattouse:
Open field tackling.
Alex Khvatov:
What is your favorite NFL team?
Sean
Cattouse:
I don’t have one. I watch everyone. I like to
watch the Pittsburgh Steelers in particular.
Alex Khvatov:
Who is the one
NFL player that you would compare your game to?
Sean
Cattouse:
Adrian Wilson and Polamalu. I try to pattern my
game after them.
Alex Khvatov:
Tell me about your former team LB
Mychal Kendricks.
Sean
Cattouse:
Mychal is a different guy. He is tenacious. He
has a great nose for the ball. It is hard to
block him. He is fast. As long as he gets that
playbook down, he will get on the field and make
an impact on it.
Alex Khvatov:
Which
underclassmen on your team should we keep an eye
on in the future?
Sean
Cattouse:
DB Marc Anthony, DB Josh Hill, DB Steve
Williams, WR Maurice Harris, WR Keenan Allen,
and Jason Gibson is a linebacker that will be
good.
Alex Khvatov:
Is WR Keenan
Allen the star in the making?
Sean
Cattouse:
Yeah, Keenan is the real deal. It is impossible
to guard him in the slot. He is really good.
He is a superstar in the making.
Alex Khvatov:
Who is the best opposing player
that you have faced during your career?
Sean
Cattouse:
TE Coby Fleener from Stanford is really good.
Alex Khvatov:
What do you enjoy
most about football?
Sean
Cattouse:
Being there with the guys. I enjoy the
commodore.
Alex Khvatov:
What are your
hobbies?
Sean
Cattouse:
Listening to music and making little mixings.
Alex Khvatov:
What is the greatest lesson that
you have learned in life so far?
Sean
Cattouse:
Life is short. You always have to prove
yourself in life. Be genuine to people. Those
are some of the things that I live by.
Alex Khvatov:
How will you spend your NFL Draft
weekend?
Sean
Cattouse:
I will watch the Draft in Chicago with my
family.
Alex Khvatov:
Finish the
sentence, Sean Cattouse is …
Sean
Cattouse:
As a player, I am a leader. I am hard working.
I work for everything that I get. Off the
field, I am a mellow guy from Midwest. I am
laid back. I am just kind to people.
