Ryan Switzer – Wide Receiver – Senior – North Carolina
Alex Khvatov: Tell me about your first day of practice at the Senior Bowl.
Ryan Switzer: I thought it went well. Guys are unfamiliar playing with each other on the same team. But for me personally, I am having to learn two positions right now. I am playing inside and out. I am trying to digest the playbook. It was nice to get out there, play ball and catch some passes. I enjoyed that and I am looking forward to it tomorrow.
Alex Khvatov: What is the biggest thing that you took away from the coaches on the first day of practice?
Ryan Switzer: Coach Saunders is really passionate about the game. He has been in the NFL a long time. The Browns organization is very passionate and very detail-oriented. It seems that they do things the right way. I enjoy getting to learn from them. I know that it will be a good experience the rest of the week.
Alex Khvatov: What are you trying to show NFL teams this week?
Ryan Switzer: I just want to come out here and make plays. I just want to have fun playing the game. I feel like I have put together a darn good resume. The goal was to come out this week and continue to do what I did in college.
Alex Khvatov: What is the highlight of your career?
Ryan Switzer: When we beat Florida State at Tallahassee this year. Everything that went into it. They haven’t lost in 22 meetings in Doak Campbell. I enjoyed that game and that memory.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at North Carolina?
Ryan Switzer: Coach Fedora and the rest of the coaching staff hit my recruiting really hard. I have family in the Charlotte area. I am familiar with North Carolina, my aunt got a nursing degree from there. Ultimately, I just felt very comfortable with the coaches. I hit the nail in the head.
Alex Khvatov: How has North Carolina been able to turn that program around in recent years?
Ryan Switzer: We had great leaders on the team. Coach Fedora recruited really good character guys who wanted to win. That is what he instilled in us. We just got tired of losing and upsetting the fans. Guys made sure that things were done the right way. No cutting corners anymore. We have turned things around for the better. It is now for the young guys to make sure that the trend continues.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
Ryan Switzer: At EXOS in Frisco, Texas. There is a limit to a number of guys that they can have down there. I felt like I could get some individual attention. If you go to a place where they have 30 or 40 dudes and one strength coach, you won’t get much attention.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the best CB that you have faced during your career?
Ryan Switzer: Kendall Fuller. I played against him as a freshman and sophomore. I enjoyed competing against him. He is the best overall that I have faced. He is in the league now.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Ryan Switzer: I got a lot to work on. It is exciting to know what I have accomplished, but there is so much more that I have set my aspirations on. I have to work on the little things. I need to study film and continue to recognize coverages better. The rest will take care of itself.
