By: Alex Khvatov

4/25/09

Alex Khvatov:  We are only one day away from the actual draft, what are you feeling at this moment?

Patrick Chung:  I am anxious and ready.  I am waiting to know where I am going to go.

Alex Khvatov:  Where will you be on this draft day weekend?

Patrick Chung:  I will be hanging out with my family and watching some TV.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you believe that you are a first day pick?

Patrick Chung:  I would hope so. Right now I will just wait and see.  It doesn’t matter where I get drafted.  I want to get a chance to play and go hard.  I want to take advantage of the opportunity.

Alex Khvatov:  What teams showed the most interest in you in the pre-draft process?

Patrick Chung:  There are a lot of teams.  The Saints, the Falcons, the Patriots and the Broncos.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Patrick Chung:  I am 5’11”, 210, and I run a 4.4.

Alex Khvatov:  You were born in Kingston, Jamaica, tell me about being born outside of the US and what effect has that had on your life?

Patrick Chung:  Man, I was so young.  It is not much out there.  There are way more opportunities here in the US.  I played a lot of soccer there and it helped me with my feet.

Alex Khvatov:  I hear that you are part of a big family, what kind of a role have your siblings had on your life?

Patrick Chung:  Mostly I am living with my sisters.  I take care of them.  We help each other out.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell me about your Senior Bowl experience.

Patrick Chung:  It was good.  I was able to see the competition.  I met the coaches and most of the teams.

Alex Khvatov:  What did you learn the most about yourself during the Senior Bowl week?

Patrick Chung:  I mean I have always played hard.  I was confident and I was going hard like always.

Alex Khvatov:  Were you able to bond with any players during this week?

Patrick Chung:  Yeah.  William Moore, Louis Delmas, Macho Harris and the RB from Purdue Kory Sheets.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you rate your Scouting Combine?

Patrick Chung:  I thought I did alright.  I got a lot of good feedback from teams.  I liked the experience.  Everyone was telling me that it would be stressful.  But you get a chance to interact with a lot of different people.

Alex Khvatov:  Coming out of high school, what programs showed the most interest in you?

Patrick Chung:  Oregon, Oregon State and Utah.

Alex Khvatov:  What made you choose the Oregon Ducks?

Patrick Chung:  It’s Pac-10 football.  It is a good football program that prides itself on academics.  I liked the Ducks and that is where I wanted to go.  I committed there even before I took my visit.

Alex Khvatov:  Was it frightening at first to step on to the college practice field at the age of 16?

Patrick Chung:  No, not at all.  It was normal.  I was a college freshman like everyone else.

Alex Khvatov:  You were a four-year starter in college and you were considered the heart and soul of the defense, how will you remember your time at Oregon?

Patrick Chung:  I had a blast.  It was a lot of good times.  The fan base is crazy.  It is all about the Ducks.  The coaching staff was great.  I love Oregon.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you take great pride in being the leading tackler in Oregon history?

Patrick Chung:  Yeah.  It takes a lot of hard work.  Coaches were giving me the opportunities.  I feel blessed.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your strengths on the football field?

Patrick Chung:  Tackling.  I pride myself on being able to tackle.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your weaknesses?

Patrick Chung:  I am going to improve on everything.  You have to work on everything or teams will discover your weaknesses and exploit them.

Alex Khvatov:  What were your expectations from a team and personal standpoint coming into this season?

Patrick Chung:  Man, do the best we can.  Eyes were all on the Championship.  Winning games and do the best we can.  Take it one day at a time.

Alex Khvatov:  How would you rate your performance during your senior campaign?

Patrick Chung:  I did good.  We went 10-3.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your favorite NFL team?

Patrick Chung:  No preference.  Whatever team takes me tomorrow will become my favorite one.  I will go hard every play for them.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is your favorite player?

Patrick Chung:  Brian Dawkins and Bob Sanders, the little safeties.  They are animals.  They tackle well.  They make game changing hits.  They change the game by themselves.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the best safety in the NFL right now?

Patrick Chung:  There are so many good safeties.  It is hard to answer and pick just one.  Ed Reed is the best safety.  When he gets the ball in his hands, you know that it is a touchdown.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced during your career?

Patrick Chung:  Adrian Peterson.  He goes hard every play.  He is always at full speed until the whistle blows.  He was able to make game changing plays.

Alex Khvatov:  Which underclassman on your team should we keep an eye on in the future?

Patrick Chung:  Corner Walter Thurmond.  It is an easy pick.  He is too athletic.  He is like a cat.  He makes plays.  He will be the real deal.

Alex Khvatov:  How will you be able to help an NFL team next season?

Patrick Chung:  Whatever they need.  I can help them with leadership, tackling and special teams.  I am a complete player and I am humble.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about playing football?

Patrick Chung:  Too many things to list.  The fans, the players, the competition and the touchdowns.  You are leaving a legacy.

Alex Khvatov:  What does it take to be a leader?

Patrick Chung:  You have to be able to communicate.  You lead by example.  You go hard in practice and in games.  Other players will follow you.  You have to be passionate about the game and go hard.  That is what it takes to be a leader.

Alex Khvatov:  How important is education to you?

Patrick Chung:  Very important.  That is why I came back for my senior season, so I can get my degree.  Not many people can say that they graduated from college.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you plan to do after your football career is over?

Patrick Chung:  I plan to play football for a long time.  I am not thinking that far ahead.  I am not worried about it right now.  My focus is all on football.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your hobbies?

Patrick Chung:  I like to draw.  I like to do anything that’s fun.  I am laid back.  Football is everything to me.  Football is my hobby.

Alex Khvatov:  If you could have dinner with anyone dead or alive, who would it be and why?

Patrick Chung:  Tiger Woods.  He is the most focused person in the world.

Alex Khvatov:  Finish the sentence, Patrick Chung is….

Patrick Chung:  The hardest working person you will ever meet.
