QUARTERBACK

1. PEYTON MANNING, INDIANAPOLIS COLTS

-Still in the prime of his career and coming off an unprecedented 4th MVP season. Arguably, the best QB to ever grace a football field. Easily the best prepared and smartest.

2. DREW BREES, NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

-Super Bowl ring validates his greatness. He is still on the upswing of his career at just 31 years old. Remains to be seen how he leads a team with a bullseye on its collective chest.

3. TOM BRADY, NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

-The second year after major knee injury will be telling. Also an all-time great, but must show he’s capable of recapturing the magic without championship talent around him.

4. AARON RODGERS, GREEN BAY PACKERS

-May be the league’s next mega-star QB. If he gets protection, he could be a record setter. Still must get rid of the ball quicker.

5. BRETT FAVRE, MINNESOTA VIKINGS

-At 40, he may still have the strongest arm in the league. His leadership skills and intelligence are vastly underrated.

6. BEN ROETHLISBERGER, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

-Will be suspended for at least 4 games…holds the ball too long…takes to many hits…his game is not pretty. But you surely can’t argue with the results.

7. PHILLIP RIVERS, SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

-Has the numbers and production to make you forget the awkward release. Still has yet to prove he can be a true championship caliber leader.

8. DONOVAN MCNABB, WASHINGTON REDSKINS

-A new setting will serve him well. He will have to make the best of a sub par WR corps…something he’s managed to do practically his entire career. Accuracy is always a concern.

9. TONY ROMO, DALLAS COWBOYS

-Finally got the elusive playoff victory. Now he must show he can lead a talent laden team deep into the playoffs. Can still be a bit erratic at times.

10. ELI MANNING, NEW YORK GIANTS

-He is not great at any faction of the game, but he is very solid in all aspects. Has a very young, but talented receiving corps.

11. JOE FLACCO, BALTIMORE RAVENS

-A blossoming star. Big frame, big arm, big time smarts. The Ravens have surrounded him with Super Bowl level talent.

12. MATT SCHAUB, HOUSTON TEXANS

-May be the most underrated QB in the league. Extremely accurate. If he can stay healthy, he could vault up this list.

13. MATT RYAN, ATLANTA FALCONS

-Emerging elite player. He has the smarts and gym rat mentality to develop into a Peyton Manning-esque QB.

14. CARSON PALMER, CINCINNATI BENGALS

-He will have to revert to his old form to make his cast of characters happy in the passing game. He has lost some confidence in the pocket over the years…can he regain it?

15. JAY CUTLER, CHICAGO BEARS

-He is guaranteed to put up big numbers, either for his team or the opposition. He should be more comfortable in his second year in Chicago.

16. VINCE YOUNG, TENNESSEE TITANS

-May be the most athletically gifted QB in the league. He must show consistency in his development and grow as a leader to ever have a chance of becoming elite.

17. JASON CAMPBELL, OAKLAND RAIDERS

-Has a big arm and solid athleticism. He will have the opportunity to lead a team without looking over his shoulder. There is plenty of young talent on this offense.

18. KEVIN KOLB, PHILADELPHIA EAGLES

-First year starter who has performed well in limited duty. Has all the tools but has to show he can get it done when teams game plan for him.

19. KYLE ORTON, DENVER BRONCOS

-Not at all flashy and will never post gaudy stats, but he is consistently solid. Not the kind of guy you build championship team around.

20. ALEX SMITH, SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

-He has shown flashes of living up to his #1 overall pick status. But, he must display more consistency and leadership. Make or break year for him.

21. CHAD HENNE, MIAMI DOLPHINS

-Possesses a huge arm, but still developing the touch required in the intermediate game. He now has a true #1 wideout.

22. MATTHEW STAFFORD, DETROIT LIONS

-Flashed greatness at times in 2009 and earned the respect of his teammates early on. Has all the tools necessary to develop into an elite player.

23. MATT HASSELBECK, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

-Gearing up for one more stretch run. A lingering back injury and age will prevent him from ever being elite again. As smart as they come.

24. MARK SANCHEZ, NEW YORK JETS

-Surrounded by as much talent as any QB in the league. Must grow in his consistency and show that he can beat teams when he has to shoulder the load.

25. MATT CASSEL, KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

-Not a great talent, but is plenty smart and instinctive. Must show he can shine without an all-star surrounding cast.

26. MARC BULGER, BALTIMORE RAVENS

-No longer starter material, but still posses a solid arm and accuracy.

27. JOSH FREEMAN, TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS

-Young up and comer with a cannon arm and great feet. Must improve his accuracy and decision making.

28. DAVID GARRARD, JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

-Time is running out for him. He must bounce back from a sub par 2009. Not the threat to run that he once was.

29. BYRON LEFTWICH, PITTSBURGH STEELERS

-Can be a sitting duck in the pocket, but when he’s in rhythm, he’s tough to beat. He will be tested early, as he will start for the suspended Roethlisberger.

30. TRENT EDWARDS, BUFFALO BILLS

-Must show that he can be a consistent starter or this will be his last shot. He has a strong arm, but questionable mechanics.

31. MATT MOORE, CAROLINA PANTHERS

-Showed promise when given a chance in 2009. If he doesn’t produce, he’ll be pushed out by Jimmy Clausen sooner rather than later.

32. JAKE DELHOMME, CLEVELAND BROWNS

-Is on his last leg as a starter. Has developed terrible habits over the years. Gambles too much and doesn’t have the arm or accuracy to cover for it.

ROOKIES (WITH A CHANCE TO CRACK TOP 32)

1. SAM BRADFORD, ST. LOUIS RAMS

-Will be given every opportunity to start from day one. He’s accurate, big and smart. Has a chance to be very good in time.

2. JIMMY CLAUSEN, CAROLINA PANTHERS

-He doesn’t have an established starter in front of him. Shows a knack for comeback victories.

3. COLT MCCOY, CLEVELAND BROWNS

-Has two backup caliber players ahead of him on the depth chart. May need time to develop into a legit starter, himself. But, he’s a winner.
