Alex Khvatov:  What are your measurements (height, weight and forty time)?

Keith Wenning:  My height is 6’3 , weight is 222 pounds and I haven’t run the forty in a long time.

Alex Khvatov:  Tell me about your junior campaign.

Keith Wenning:  It was a good year for us.  As a team, we achieved our goals.  We came up short of the MAC Championship.  We got to a bowl game, but lost.  Our next goal is to get to a bowl game and win.  We played well.  We had wins against some bigger programs.  We beat South Florida and Indiana.  But you are never satisfied.

Alex Khvatov:  What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?

Keith Wenning:  Every year, I work on a few things in order to improve my overall game.  It starts with leadership.  I was voted captain last year.  I took on that role.  I wanted to be the best that I can be.  I improved my game every year.  I am trying to become a better overall QB this year.  I need to cut down on the interceptions and make smarter decisions.  I take what the defense gives me.  I am working on being a more complete QB.

Alex Khvatov:  What have you learned about your team after the spring?

Keith Wenning:  We are excited as a team.  We lost a couple of linemen.  But we have our skilled guys back.  New offensive linemen did a great job in the spring.  They continue to work hard.  We are excited about our offense.  We are working on the small things.  We need to get on the same page.  Our team has a great mindset.  We are working hard in the weight room and doing the extra things on our own.  We are striving to be the best that we can be.

Alex Khvatov:  What are your team and individual goals for this upcoming senior season?

Keith Wenning:  It’s nothing less than a MAC Championship for us.  We also want to get to a bowl game.  Players and coaches want to get there.  We are capable of doing it.

Alex Khvatov:  Ball State is not going to sneak up on people this year, how are you handling the greater expectations?

Keith Wenning:  Teams will be ready for us, but we will ready too.  We want to show everyone that last year was no fluke.  We have to go out there and play well every week.  We will be ready to play at our best when it is game time.

Alex Khvatov:  Which players on your team are ready for a breakout season?

Keith Wenning:  There are a couple of receivers to watch out for.  WR KeVonn Mabon played little last year.  He is looking to have a big year.  Jordan Williams is a big time receiver.  He showed improvement in the spring and summer.  Willie (Snead) is leading the way.  The new guys are trying to improve their game.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the strength of this year’s team?

Keith Wenning:  Our strength has to be the passing attack.  We have all of our skilled position players back.  Our running game is dangerous.  We have a combination of both.  Our defensive line is one of the best in the MAC as well.  We are all working on getting better.

Alex Khvatov:  What is an area of concern for this year’s squad?

Keith Wenning:  I have to say that it is the offensive line.  We have new guys there.  They have to get comfortable with me.  They have done a good job in camp.  But they have to get into a real game.  They have a great coach, and I am not worried about them at all.

Alex Khvatov:  What is your biggest highlight from last year?

Keith Wenning:  One highlight is the last second field goal against Indiana.  Our kicker showed a lot of guts.  He was able to stand up to the pressure.  Schott kicked the game-winning field goal against Indiana.  Another highlight is Willie Snead making a big time catch in the end zone against South Florida.  He stepped up.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes WR Willie Snead such a dangerous playmaker?

Keith Wenning:  He works his tail off.  He wants to get better.  He works hard.  We work together, so we can be on the same page on the field.  He is a dynamic receiver.  He should have another big year.  We move him around.  He does a great job for us.

Alex Khvatov:  Who is the toughest player that you have faced during your career?

Keith Wenning:  One of the toughest guys is Roosevelt Nix from Kent State.  He has a motor that doesn’t stop.  He is very quick.  He stands out.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy the most about Ball State?

Keith Wenning:  It is a great college.  You get a great education here.  The football program is one of the top ones in the MAC.  It is a great conference.  You face tough competition week in and week out.  It is a great show for the fans.  It is great to be a part of it.

Alex Khvatov:  What is the biggest rivalry that you have been a part of while being at Ball State?

Keith Wenning:  Northern Illinois.  We haven’t beaten them during my time at Ball State.  This rivalry sticks out above the rest.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you enjoy most about playing college football?

Keith Wenning:  Being able to come in and practice.  I love being around my teammates and coaches.  I try to get better every day and perfect my skills.  I enjoy going out on the field and beating an opponent.

Alex Khvatov:  As a quarterback, what does it take to be a leader?

Keith Wenning:  A leader is someone who can take control in tight situations.  Everyone looks at the QB.  You have to be able to inspire other players on the team.  Guys have to follow you.  You have to be able to come through in the closing minutes of the game.  You have to be a leader on and off the field.

Alex Khvatov:  What makes you unique?

Keith Wenning:  I don’t know how unique I am.  I am an athlete.  I like to be around friends and family.  I work hard.  It is something that my family instilled in me.  I like to be with my teammates.  I am a team player.  Outside of the football team, I am a normal person.  I am down to earth.

Alex Khvatov:  Do you like the attention that you receive as the quarterback at Ball State?

Keith Wenning:  I have always been humble while growing up.  I never get too excited.  I am pretty level headed.  Attention comes and goes.  I worry about this year and this team.  I worry about this season.

Alex Khvatov:  What do you plan to do with your life after football?

Keith Wenning:  I am majoring in finance.  If it doesn’t work out with football, I will be working in the financial field.  I am working at a financial company right now over the summer.  I want to be a financial adviser.

Alex Khvatov:  What five words best describe you?

Keith Wenning:  Hard working, responsible, trustworthy, a team player and a friend.
