DeAngelo Willingham Interview
 Cornerback - Tennessee

By: Chris Horwedel

12/26/08

Chris Horwedel: You spent two years in junior college, what did that time mean to you?

DeAngelo Willingham: It meant that I had to get my act together if I wanted to play D1, athletically I knew I could play just had to get the grades.

Chris Horwedel: What was it that brought you to Tennessee?

DeAngelo Willingham:
The way coach Fulmer and his staff recruited me. It was the SEC and it was kind of close to home.

Chris Horwedel: Is there a player you pattern the way you play after?

DeAngelo Willingham:
I guess I would say a mixture of Al Harris and Nnamdi Asomugha, because they are bigger corners.

Chris Horwedel: Do you think that it's necessary for players to have a certain amount of an ego in order to truly excel in the game of football?

DeAngelo Willingham:
Yes, especially playing DB. It's a priority that you have a swag going weekend after weekend guarding top WR's. You need that to keep that confidence of an elite DB.

Chris Horwedel: What's something that would surprise people about DeAngelo Willingham?

DeAngelo Willingham:
I'm sort of a shy person and laid back.

Chris Horwedel: If you had to single out one guy on your team for having stepped this year, who would it be and why?

DeAngelo Willingham:
Eric Berry, he is just an outstanding play-maker and leader. However, he is a true sophomore, you wouldn't be able to tell by the way he carry himself.

Chris Horwedel: How do you feel you stack up against the cornerbacks in the country?

DeAngelo Willingham:
I feel that I fit in with the best of them, because what many people don't know is that just because I'm a bigger corner I can move and flip my hips just like any smaller corner. I also have make up speed and a great understanding of the game.

Chris Horwedel: If you could pick a pro team to play for, who would it be?

DeAngelo Willingham:
Green Bay, because of the defense they run. I believe that my game fits their system.

Chris Horwedel: What's more important to you in the beginning of your NFL career: Being on a great team or being able to play early on?

DeAngelo Willingham:
I would say playing early, it doesn't matter what team I just want a chance to play on that level.

Chris Horwedel: Let's say you're named the college football commissioner tomorrow, what's the first rule you would change?

DeAngelo Willingham:
I really don't know, I think I would say the uniform dress code.

Chris Horwedel: What's your current height/weight/40?

DeAngelo Willingham:
5'11'', 203, 4.43

Chris Horwedel: What's been your single greatest football moment so far?

DeAngelo Willingham:
The greatest moment would be my first career interception and UT. I was dreaming about that moment for a while.

Chris Horwedel: On the flip side, what's the one thing you wish you could do over?

DeAngelo Willingham:
Work harder in the classroom in high school so I would have four years at a D1 instead of two, but things happen for a reason.

Chris Horwedel: Lets talk get to the important stuff. What's the last movie you saw, cd you bought and video game that you played?

DeAngelo Willingham:
The latest Saw movie, Young Jeezy album, and Madden 09.

Chris Horwedel: What's the best advice you've been given?

DeAngelo Willingham:
Keep God first.
