C.J. Beathard – Quarterback – Senior – Iowa
Alex Khvatov: Tell me about your first day of practice at the Senior Bowl.
C.J. Beathard: It’s been a great experience so far. I haven’t been in practice mode since the bowl game. It was nice to get out there and throw to the receivers. It was a little sloppy today. It was new for everyone. It is a new offense. Everyone is trying to process stuff. But I think that it will continue to get better in the next couple of days.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to prove to NFL teams this week?
C.J. Beathard: I want to prove to teams that I could hang with the best of them. In my heart, I am the best QB in this draft. I really believe it. I want to show it to them. It would be a great decision to draft me.
Alex Khvatov: What have you learned from the NFL coaches out here today?
C.J. Beathard: NFL coaching is different. We did a lot of footwork drills. I have good footwork, but he told us to quicken up that footwork in the pocket. They teach how to do ball fakes a little bit differently.
Alex Khvatov: What was it like to play for Kirk Ferentz and the rest of the coaching staff at Iowa?
C.J. Beathard: It was great. It is a great organization to play for. We ran a pro-style system. It helped me prepare for the next level.
Alex Khvatov: What was the highlight of your career?
C.J. Beathard: It would be hard to beat that undefeated season. Obviously, we didn’t finish the season the way we wanted to. We came up short in the Big 10 Championship. Also beating Michigan last year. The game-winning FG, and the fans storming the field.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths on the field?
C.J. Beathard: I grew up in a pro-style system. The playcalling and the checks at the line of scrimmage is something I am familiar with. I have a strong arm. I played through injuries. I know what it takes to win. I have a winning record.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
C.J. Beathard: I think that I can improve upon in every aspect. I can definitely work on my balance and footwork.
Alex Khvatov: What was it like to grow up and come from a football family?
C.J. Beathard: It was great. It is a very competitive family. My grandpa and my uncles. Family runs in our blood. My grandpa is the staple of our family. He has carried it through his kids.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
C.J. Beathard: I am in Orange County, CA training with Ryan Flaherty.
