1) San Francisco
49ers - *Adrian
Peterson (RB) Oklahoma
Analysis: Frank Gore may be the
running back of the moment for the 49ers, but
barring a 1,500+ yard season from him, picking
Peterson is a no-brainer. Peterson should
be an impact player from the first day he suits
up.
2) New
York Jets - *Sam Baker
(OT) USC
Analysis: The casual draft fan may not yet
be aware of just how good Sam Baker is. Make no
mistake, he's a special prospect who has the chance to
anchor an offensive line for 10 years.
3) Houston
Texans - *Dwayne Jarrett (WR) USC
Analysis: Eric Moulds was a nice addition
for the team, but he's not getting any younger.
Jarrett is a big, strong and fast wide receiver who has
shown the ability to make tough catches look routine.
4) Tennessee
Titans - Gaines Adams (DE) Clemson
Analysis: One season of Kyle Vanden Bosch not
withstanding, the Titans have been lacking an impact
player on the outside of the defensive line since Jevon
Kearse left town for Philadelphia. Adams is a
disruptive pass rusher who can change opponents
offensive gameplans.
5) Buffalo
Bills - Brady Quinn (QB) Notre Dame
Analysis:
J.P. Losman could
surprise us all and have a breakout season as a starter
for the Bills this season, but we're not counting on it.
Quinn is as NFL-ready a quarterback as you could hope
for and could start as a rookie.
6) New
Orleans Saints - *Antoine Cason (CB) Arizona
Analysis: Cason has the potential to become
an elite level player at the cornerback position.
He combines good size with very good speed, ball skills
and closing ability.
7) Green
Bay Packers - **Sidney Rice (WR) South
Carolina
Analysis: The Packers appear to be in for a
rough season this year and could go a lot of
different ways with this pick. However, the
chance to pick up a game-changing wide receiver is
too much to pass up.
8)
Oakland Raiders - *Brian
Brohm (QB) Louisville
Analysis: Aaron Brooks is an inconsistent a
quarterback as is in the NFL today. Andrew
Walter is being groomed as the QB of the future, but
he's struggled this season to the point where the
team has recently signed Jeff George.
9)
Detroit Lions - *Lawrence Jackson (DE) USC
Analysis: Players with the size and
speed of Lawrence Jackson don't come along very
often. He's may not be in a Julius Peppers /
Mario Williams class, but Jackson is only a
half-step down from them as a prospect.
10)
Cleveland Browns - Joe Thomas (OT) Wisconsin
Analysis: Thomas is an obvious pick here as
the Browns are surprised to see him still on the
board. Thomas has added some muscle to his
frame and should be able to come in and start right
away for the Browns.
11)
Saint Louis Rams - Justin Blalock (OG) Texas
Analysis: An offensive tackle for the
Longhorns, Blalock could potentially be the highest
rated offensive guard prospect to enter the draft in
quite some time. Adding a player like Justin
has a positive effect on every other player on the
line.
12)
Arizona Cardinals - Paul Posluszny (OLB) Penn State
Analysis: Posluszny isn't the typical
"flashy" Cardinals pick. In truth there's
little flashy about Paul at all. He's the
definition of a throwback football player with his
toughness, advanced instincts, a motor that never
quits and a nasty demeanor.
13)
Atlanta Falcons - *Alan Branch (DT) Michigan
Analysis: Branch started off as a massive
defensive end in the team's 3-4 defense but has
grown into the type of player who can not only
anchor the middle, but also get through the line and
attack the quarterback.
14)
Minnesota Vikings - *Sedrick Ellis (DT) USC
Analysis: Ellis is a smaller defensive
tackle in the mold of former Minnesota Viking John
Randle. Ellis is a talented pass rusher who
gets into the backfield by taking advantage of a
quick first step.
15)
Philadelphia Eagles - *Marshawn Lynch
(RB) California
Analysis: While the team likely would
have liked Penn State's Paul Posluszny to slip to
them, the Eagles have to be happy with Lynch as
their consolation prize. Lynch is a dynamic
running back who can break loose and score anytime
he touches the ball. Being able to line-up
Lynch along with Brian Westbrook in the same
backfield would almost be unfair.
16)
San Diego Chargers - LaRon Landry (S) Louisiana Tech
Analysis: Landry is the kind of player
who can step in and turn a good defense into a great
one by adding another dimension to the team from the
safety position.
17) Baltimore Ravens -
*Gosder Cherilus (OT) Boston
College
Analysis: Cherilus is a relatively
unknown prospect at this point, but he's a real
talent. A very good run blocker, Gosder has
the kind of strength people dream of. Once he
improves his pass protection a bit, the sky is the
limit.
18)
Tampa Bay Bucs - Quentin Moses (DE) Georgia
Analysis: Moses is an obvious pick for
the Bucs as he's essentially a younger version of
Simeon Rice. Moses can act as a 3rd defensive
end for a year if the team holds onto Rice and can
do what he does best; rush the passer.
19)
Kansas City Chiefs - Jason Hill (WR) Washington
State
Analysis: Dante Hall and Samie Parker
have been on the brink of turning into starting type
wide receivers for some time now, however neither of
them has been able to make the jump. With
Hill, there's no question. His downfield speed
would help open things up for the rushing game.
20)
Chicago Bears - *Tom
Zbikowski (S) Notre Dame
Analysis: The Bears understand the
value of having a certain type of nasty attitude
from their defense and Zbikowski is a perfect fit.
He's an enforcer with enough speed to run with
receivers.
21)
Jacksonville Jaguars - Patrick Willis (ILB)
Mississippi
Analysis: Willis isn't the best athlete
in the draft, he won't blow you away with his
workouts numbers. What he will do is perform
consistently well for you week after week after
week.
22)
New York Giants - Daymeion Hughes (CB) California
Analysis: The Giants signed anyone they
could who was listed as a defensive back this
off-season, however the cornerback position could
still use an upgrade. Hughes is a big corner
was has exceptional speed.
23)
Washington Redskins - *Brian
Toal (ILB) Boston College
Analysis: Toal is a tremendous athlete
who could potentially play any of the three
linebacker spots in the NFL. His best fit
however would be on the inside, where he could put
his understanding of the game to the best use.
Analysis: Olsen could easily end up
going considerably higher then this when the draft
rolls around. He's a member of the new breed
of tight end, a player who's a solid blocker but
really makes a living catching the ball downfield.
25)
Miami Dolphins - *Brandon
Siler (OLB) Florida
Analysis: It seems like Siler's been a star
on the college level for the last 5 years. A
speedy outside backer, Siler can make plays in the
opponents backfield or by dropping back into the
defensive secondary.
Analysis: Revis isn't the fastest
cornerback in the draft but he makes up for his lack
of top end speed with exceptional positioning and
quickness in and out of his breaks.
27)
New England Patriots - Jeff Samardzija (WR) Notre Dame
Analysis: It seems strange to say that
the Patriots are really in trouble at any position,
but it's true. The team's current group of
active wide receivers is a weak one.
Samardzija would have a chance to step right in and
catch 50+ balls as a rookie.
Analysis: Free is an interesting
player. He's a finesse lineman who is not only
one of the best technicians in the draft, he's also
one of the quicker lineman we've seen in a while.
His run blocking isn't where his pass blocking is
yet, but he's a player who's devoted to improving.
29)
Denver Broncos - *Ted Ginn
Jr. (WR) Ohio State
Analysis: I'll admit, I've always liked
Ginn more as a cornerback prospect then as a wide
receiver prospect. This season (with the
departure of Santonio Holmes) we'll get a chance to
see if the Buckeyes made the right choice. At
the very least, he's one of the more dynamic players
in the NCAA.
30)
Indianapolis Colts - Levi Brown (OT) Penn State
Analysis: Brown is an ideal fit for the
Colts offensive scheme. He's a strong run
blocker who's also flashed the ability to turn into
a very good pass blocker.
Analysis: The Steelers don't typically
take linebackers in the opening round of the draft,
however Blades is too good to pass up here. He
could play any of the linebacker positions for the
team and could turn into an impact player on that
defense in a hurry.
32)
Seattle Seahawks - Drew Stanton (QB) Michigan State
Analysis: Quarterback obviously isn't a
pressing concern for the Seahawks with Matt
Hasselbeck under center. This is a move for
the future. Stanton could sit for a year or
two and them take over the team without the offense
missing a beat.
Round 2:
33)
San Francisco 49ers - Rufus Alexander (OLB)
Oklahoma
34) New York Jets - Michael Bush (RB) Louisville
35) Houston Texans - Brandon Meriweather (S) Miami (Fl)
36) Tennessee Titans - Desmond Bishop (ILB)
California
37) Buffalo Bills - Jay Alford (DT) Penn State
38) New Orleans Saints - Quinn Pitcock (DT) Ohio State
39) Green Bay Packers - *Joseph
"Red" Bryant (DT) Texas A&M
40) Oakland Raiders - *Quentin Groves (DE) Auburn
41) Detroit Lions - *Kirk Barton (OT) Ohio State
42) Cleveland Browns - *Chris Long (DE) Virginia
43) Saint Louis Rams - Kyle Young (OC) Fresno State
44) Arizona Cardinals - Brian Leonard (FB)
Rutgers
45) Atlanta Falcons - Michael Griffin (S) Texas
46) Minnesota Vikings - Samson Satele (OG) Hawaii
47) Philadelphia Eagles - Keyonvis Bouie (OLB) Florida International
48) San Diego Chargers - *Jordan
Grimes (OG) Purdue
49) Baltimore Ravens - Ken Darby (RB) Alabama
50) Tampa Bay Bucs - Leon Hall (CB) Michigan
51) Kansas City Chiefs - Sam Keller (QB) Arizona
State
52) Chicago Bears - Arron Sears (OT) Tennessee
53) Jacksonville Jaguars - Tim Crowder (DE)
Texas
54) New York Giants - *Adam
Spieker (C) Missouri
55) New York Jets (From Washington) - Mike Jones
(OG) Iowa
56) Cincinnati Bengals - Anthony Waters (OLB)
Clemson
57) Miami Dolphins - Andrew Carnahan (OT)
Arizona State
58) Dallas Cowboys - *Josh
Pinkard (S) USC
59) New England Patriots - Adam Carriker (DE) Nebraska
60) Carolina Panthers - Eric Weddle (S) Utah
61) Denver Broncos - Mkristo Bruce (DE) Washington State
62) Indianapolis Colts - Jarrett Hicks (WR)
Texas Tech
63) Pittsburgh Steelers - Ryan Harris (OT) Notre
Dame
64) Seattle Seahawks - Marcus Thomas (DT)
Florida
Round 3:
65)
San Francisco 49ers - Paul Williams (WR) Fresno
State
66) New York Jets - Tarell Brown (CB) Texas
67) Houston Texans - Matt Herian (TE) Nebraska
68) Tennessee Titans - Andrew Cameron (OT)
California
69) Buffalo Bills - Dan Bazuin (DE) Central Michigan
70) New Orleans Saints - Steve Smith (WR) USC
71) Green Bay Packers - Stephen Nicholas (OLB)
South Florida
72) Oakland Raiders - Oscar Lua (ILB) USC
73) Detroit Lions - DeAndre Jackson (CB) Iowa State
74) Cleveland Browns - LaMarr Woodley (DE) Michigan
75) Saint Louis Rams - Troy Smith (QB) Ohio
State
76) Arizona Cardinals - Justin Harrell (DT)
Tennessee
77) Atlanta Falcons - Joe Staley (OT) Central
Michigan
78) Minnesota Vikings - Chansi Stuckey (WR) Clemson
79) Philadelphia Eagles - Joel Filani (WR) Texas Tech
80) San Diego Chargers - Thaddaeus Washington (ILB) Colorado
81) Baltimore Ravens - Brian Daniels (OG)
Colorado
82) Tampa Bay Bucs - Earl Everett (OLB) Florida
83) Kansas City Chiefs - Clark Harris (TE)
Rutgers
84) Chicago Bears - David Harris (LB) Michigan
85) Jacksonville Jaguars - Mark Fenton (OC) Colorado
86) New York Giants - Kareem Brown (DT) Miami
(Fl)
87) Washington Redskins - Larry McSwain (DE) UAB
88) Cincinnati Bengals (Used in
supplemental draft) - N/A
89) Miami Dolphins - Brandon Mebane (DT)
California
90) Dallas Cowboys - Jordan Palmer (QB) UTEP

Oregon

Fresno State

South Carolina
