Alex Khvatov: Tell me about your first day of practice at the Senior Bowl.
Carroll Phillips: The first day of practice was pretty good. It was intense. I tried to come out and make plays. I wanted to get the technique down.
Alex Khvatov: What do you want to prove to NFL teams this week?
Carroll Phillips: I am an every down player. I am good against the run.
Alex Khvatov: What are your strengths on the field?
Carroll Phillips: Speed. I am a pass rusher.
Alex Khvatov: What areas of your game are you trying to improve upon?
Carroll Phillips: Using my hands better. Making more plays in the backfield. Getting off the blocks quicker.
Alex Khvatov: Where are you currently training for the NFL Draft?
Carroll Phillips: At XPE Sports with Tony Villani in Boca Raton.
Alex Khvatov: What was the highlight of your career?
Carroll Phillips: I like sacks. I get a lot of sacks. I had 20 TFL’s this season.
Alex Khvatov: How did you wind up at Illinois?
Carroll Phillips: I came from a junior college in Western Mississippi. I played one-year there. I went to Illinois. I played three years there. I started five games my second year. I played behind Jihad Ward. In the offseason, I knew that I needed to get better. I got bigger, stronger and faster. I had a mentality and a goal that I wanted to achieve. I started the whole season as a senior.
Alex Khvatov: What is it like to play with your former teammate Dawuane Smoot one last time?
Carroll Phillips: It feels good. We are actually roommates here. We go over the playbook together. It is like having a brother with you.
Alex Khvatov: Who is the best player that you have gone up against during your career?
Carroll Phillips: #65 OL from Wisconsin (Ryan Ramczyk).
